Langh Tech delivers hybrid exhaust gas scrubbers and EGR water treatment systems to 2,150 TEU container vessels on order at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard.
Three container vessels on order for shipping companies Eimskip Island ehf and Royal Arctic Line A/S will be equipped with Langh Tech hybrid scrubber systems and water treatment systems for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The newbuildings are of a new energy-efficient design developed by Deltamarin, and will be built by the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard in China.
The in-line scrubbers are multi-inlet installations, where the main engine and auxiliary engines are connected to the same scrubber tower. In addition, the MAN Diesel & Turbo two-stroke main engines of the newbuildings are equipped with EGR systems. EGR is a method to reduce NOx emissions to meet Tier III requirements. In the EGR process approximately one third of the exhaust gas is washed with a scrubbing unit where particles are removed from the exhaust gas before it is recycle...
The environmentally friendly scrubber from Langh Tech was acknowledged, as the EU-project based on the technology, received 14.6.2017 the Baltic Sea Clean Maritime Award at the Baltic Sea Forum in Berlin. The third-place award was handed to Langh Group’s Chairman of the Board, Maritime Counsellor Hans Langh by Professor Kurt Bodewig, European Coordinator Baltic-Adriatic.
The Forum was organised in connection with the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) Annual Forum.
The Baltic Sea Clean Maritime Award is awarded to innovative and environmentally friendly solutions and ideas, which promote the well-being of the Baltic Sea. The project Back from Black – Study and deployment of the affordable scrubber retrofitting technology for SME shipowners, which is coordinated by Langh Group, received the acknowledgement in the Innovation and Science category.
The project has been funded by INEA (Innovation and Networks Executive Agency) from the CEF-programme (Connecting Europe Facility). Th...
On Tuesday 16.5. Langh Tech hosted a seminar to mark the end of the Back from Black EU-project. Experts from several instances of the maritime industry were present to talk about the different aspects of scrubbers, from legal to practical aspects, as well as to present a few other projects included in the Back from Black project. Langh Tech’s new Crew Training Center in Pikis was also presented for the first time.
On Wednesday 17.5., the event continued with a visit to Langh Ship’s ms Linda in Helsinki, where the guests attended a tour to see the scrubber system in action.
The entire seminar was a great success, and we want to once more thank everyone participating for making it as good as it was.
Last week Langh Tech’s closed loop scrubber process won first place in the Green Ship Technology category of awards at the Green Ship Technology Conference in Copenhagen. Companies were nominated for recent accomplishments, from the period of 1st January 2016 to 31st January 2017.
During this period Langh Tech has received significant orders from the international cruise companies, making an important entry into the cruise ship scrubber market. Langh Tech's tailor-made scrubber towers and modular water treatment systems reduce the installation costs significantly especially in retrofit cases. Furthermore, to keep meeting the customer expectations, Langh Tech is constantly developing its products to lower both CAPEX and OPEX of the systems.
The judge panel selected Langh Tech as a winner based on having an innovative design, dynamic focus on customer requirements, a good and workable solution and clear market potential. Collaboration with customers as well as ensuring system compatibi...
Having established a firm position on the market for supplying scrubbers and water treatment systems, Langh Tech is now expanding its water treatment technology to new areas.
Langh Tech has been working in close cooperation with MAN Diesel & Turbo (MDT) to develop a water treatment system to be used for cleaning the process water of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems. EGR is a method to reduce NOx emissions to meet Tier III requirements. In the EGR process, approximately one third of the exhaust gas is recycled back into the engine, first removing the particles from the redirected gases with a small scrubber. The process water from exhaust gas washing is continuously cleaned during EGR operation and this is where Langh Tech’s water treatment technology is applied. Langh Tech water treatment is based on membrane filtration, meaning that the operational costs are kept low and the waste consists only of small amounts of compact dry sludge.
Langh Tech, the Finnish manufacturer and supplier of scrubber solutions, will deliver scrubber systems to two large cruise vessels.
Two newbuildings of the Breakaway Plus class on order at Meyer Werft in Papenburg for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will be equipped with scrubber systems from Langh Tech. The scrubbers are of hybrid type, enabling unrestricted operation in closed loop mode. The delivery includes scrubber units for all five engines on each ship and treatment plants for the scrubber water. ”The scrubber tower is of our design but will be manufactured at the shipyard. The components for the water treatment plant will be manufactured at our production facility at Piikkiö, Finland, and delivered to the shipyard,” Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Commercial Director of Langh Tech, explains.
Supplying the cruise industry with environmental technology is a new land winning for Langh Tech. Prior to the order for the NCL vessels Langh Tech delivered water treatment systems for scrubber water...
Langh Tech has bought Deltamarin Ltd’s share of the previously jointly owned DeltaLangh Ltd, which manufactures scrubbers and water treatment systems.
”The cooperation with Deltamarin continues and Deltamarin Floating Construction can still provide turnkey scrubber installations”, states Laura Langh-Lagerlöf.
The method developed by Langh is based on an environmentally friendly closed-loop scrubber that can also be used in open-loop mode. “The hands-on experience has been excellent. We can see that the closed-loop water treatment system can, as it is a reliably functioning and an affordable solution, offer a very good opportunity for updating also other manufacturer’s scrubbers in order to meet the tightened regulations”, tells Langh Group’s managing director Laura Langh-Lagerlöf pleased.
From 1 January 2016 the scrubbers and the water treatment units carry the trademark Langh Tech. Sauli Vahtokari from Langh Group’s production sees the change very positive. “I believe that throug...
DeltaLangh Ltd’s exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber) has been successfully installed on M/V Bore Song of Bore Ltd. This True Hybrid Scrubber system allows both close and open loop operation in the most environmentally-friendly way. The system has received confirmation of full compliance with SECA and IMO regulations (approved by Lloyd’s register and TRAFI, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency), and is now confirmed as meeting all present and forthcoming requirements. The delivery was supplied on a turnkey basis by Deltamarin Floating Construction.
When M/V Bore Song sailed from the repair yard after 14 days dry docking, the open loop operation of the scrubber was in immediate use to clean the exhaust gases of the 12MW main engine. While the vessel was trading final installations were completed, and the system can now also be used continuously in closed loop mode without time limits.
“The DeltaLangh Hybrid Scrubber was a choice when looking for a sustainable solution for the futur...
